Shehu Sani Fires Back at El-Rufai and Amaechi over Criticism of Tinubu’s Administration

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has criticized ex-Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, for their comments blaming President Bola Tinubu’s administration for the country’s worsening poverty and hunger.

Sani accused both men of hypocrisy, describing them as key contributors to the very problems they now condemn. He noted that El-Rufai and Amaechi had no moral ground to criticize the current administration, as they failed to address the same challenges during their time in power.

El-Rufai and Amaechi were described as the architects of banditry, poverty, and hunger who did nothing to solve these issues during their tenure. Sani’s comments followed El-Rufai’s remarks at Amaechi’s 60th birthday lecture in Abuja, where the former governor described Nigeria as being controlled by “urban bandits” and warned that the country is facing one of its worst crises since 1914.

However, Sani dismissed the criticism as politically motivated and rooted in bitterness over exclusion from Tinubu’s cabinet. He urged President Tinubu to do more to address the region’s challenges but warned against politically motivated attacks disguised as concern for the people.

Sani acknowledged ongoing security challenges in parts of the north, such as Katsina and Zamfara, but credited the current administration with making some progress. He noted that people can now travel the Birnin Gwari road, which was once a death trap due to incessant bandit attacks, and that the southern part of Kaduna, once abandoned, is now relatively peaceful thanks to the efforts of the current Chief of Defence.

Shehu Sani’s comments highlight the importance of constructive criticism and the need to differentiate between genuine concern for the people and politically motivated attacks. While there are ongoing challenges in the country, it is essential to acknowledge the progress made and to work towards addressing the remaining issues.
